Shimabuku ME, WE @museion_bz curated by Bart van der Heide. Identity and poster: Studio Mut, Thomas Kronbichler.
Museion presents the largest overview show of the work of Shimabuku (*1969, Kobe, Japan) in Europe and his first museum show in Italy.
Since the 1990s, the Japanese artist has cultivated a light, curious and humorous way of experiencing the world, poetically documented in his cross-media work. Shimabuku’s work consists largely of traces of travels and encounters with animals, landscapes, objects and people. His often-informal films, photographs, installations, sculptures and recordings are generous invitations to participate in these fleeting moments. Like gentle flashes of inspiration, they allow a change of direction when reflecting on the conditions or circumstances of the human being in relation with the surrounding environment.
The exhibition will showcase a variety of artworks dating from the early 90s up until today, as well as pieces produced especially for the exhibition. There will be a particular focus on the artwork Erect, Bolzano created in collaboration with Mauracherhof, Bolzano and Ex-Montecatini (ex-Solland Silicon), a series of abandoned buildings in the region from which the production materials of the artwork are taken.
